Duval County Public Schools’ spring break is Monday, March 15, through Friday, March 19, 2027. Schools and district offices are closed all week, according to the district calendar. There is a second day off the following week: Friday, March 26, Good Friday. Easter is Sunday, March 28.

Camps

JaxParks Spring Break Camp. In 2026 the city’s parks department ran a free, full-day camp for ages 6 to 12, March 16-20, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with fitness, sports and games, arts and crafts and team building; families packed lunch and snacks. Space was first come, first served through the JaxParks registration system. The city had not announced the 2027 camp when we checked. Its youth camps page is where camp dates are posted, and summer camp staff answer at 904-255-7931.

Beaches and oceanfront parks

  • Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park, 500 Wonderwood Drive: 1.5 miles of beach, a 60-acre lake for fishing and paddling (no swimming in the lake) and more than 20 miles of bike and hiking trails. Open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. during daylight saving time, which is in effect by mid-March. Entry $5 per car (up to six people) or $3 per walker or cyclist. 904-255-6767.
  • Huguenot Memorial Park, 10980 Heckscher Drive, where the St. Johns River meets the ocean. Open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. in daylight saving time; $5 per vehicle. The park closes to admissions or beach driving at high tide, at capacity or in unsafe conditions, so call 904-255-4255 before you go.

Attractions

  • Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, 370 Zoo Parkway: open daily 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; last tickets at 4 p.m.
  • Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens, 829 Riverside Ave.: open Tuesday to Sunday, until 8 p.m. Thursday. Children 5 and under get in free; students 6 and up pay $18.
  • Riverfront Plaza, 2 W. Independent Drive, downtown: an elevated playground, lawn and splash pad, open sunrise to sundown. The city’s splash pads open for the season in May.

What is open

Spring break is a school holiday, not a city one. The Duval County Tax Collector’s holiday schedule lists no closures in March, and trash and recycling run as normal; the city’s holiday schedule moves pickup only for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

What this means for you

  • Book camps as soon as the city posts registration; the 2026 camp was first come, first served.
  • Daylight saving time starts Sunday, March 14, 2027, the day before spring break, so the beach parks keep their longer summer hours all week.
